1. Load and Start:
------------------
St-Designer needs at least 1 MB Ram and a Monochrome Monitor. To start,
double-click on the file STDESIGN.PRG. After the program loads you will see
in the lower half of the screen a list of Icons containing 48 Symbols.
2 Operation:
--------------
2.1 Use of the Mouse:
---------------------
If you are familiar with the operation of other Art programs, then you will
have no trouble understanding and using St-Designer. The wanted function
can now be selected by clicking on the appropriate Icon with the left mouse
button. The Icon list will disappear, leaving the whole screen available
for drawing.
For example, using the Line drawing Icon: when the screen clears, place the
mouse pointer at the place where you wish the line to start and press the
left button. As you move the mouse to the other end the line will be drawn
out behind the pointer. Another click with the left button sets the line in
place. Clicking the right button will cancel the function and return you to
the Icon list.
2. 2 The Keyboard:
------------------
ESC Key : By pressing the ESC-Key you can convert the mouse
pointer into a cross-hair.
INSERT Key : Toggles the Coordinate Display which will record the
precise location of the Mouse pointer. Only available
when using the Cross-hair.
CLR-HOME Key: Activates Real-Time Magnify, the area under the mouse
pointer will be shown Magnified. This is a useful aid
to accurate drawing. This is likewise only available
when using the Cross-hair.
CURSOR-Keys : Will move the Real-Time Magnify box around the screen
in order not to obscure part of your drawing. Again
this can only be used with the Cross-hair function.
SPACEBAR : By pressing this key, you can call up a small Dialog-Box
in which to enter Coordinates.
FUNCTION KEYS: The Function keys enable you to save the Mouse position,
and by using in conjunction with the SHIFT key, you can
immediately jump to the appropriate position.
TAB-Key : This key enables you to switch Graphic Mode between
Overlay and Invert. Use in conjunction with the Block
and Sponge functions for example. Try it out...
BACKSPACE-Key : Removesd all items drawn since the last time the
key was pressed. NOTE: Returning to the Icon Display
will clear this Buffer!
UNDO-Key : Performs the same function as Backspace, but IS active
after returning to the Icon Display.
CONTROL-Key : This Key has several functions:
1. In Freehand, it calls the Brush Editor.
2. In Brush, it calls the Fill Pattern selector.
3. Block cut out or Scissors, calls the Block menu.
4. Stad-Text, calls the set-up Menu.
5. Line, draw vertical and horizontal.
6. Rectangle, rotates the rectangle.
SHIFT-Keys : By using the SHIFT-Keys you can choose the number of
side for the Polygon: greater or fewer.
In the Block function, pressing the LEFT-SHIFT key will
insert that Block into the CLIPBOARD.
In the Bezier-Curve Function, simultaneous pressing
of the Left Mouse Button and the Left Shift Key will
allow you to set new Pixel/Point parameters.
These are necessarily brief instructions to this very elaborate program,
but hopefully they are enough to let you get started in using ST DESIGNER.
